Depression

Most of us have “down” days from time to time.  When these days go on and on, when you find no enjoyment in life, when you feel like you just want to pull a cloak over your whole body and no longer feel anything you may be depressed.  This is an illness.  People may tell you, “Just snap out of it!”  Does a diabetic snap out of diabetes?  No!  Can a hypertensive patient snap out of it?  No!  You cannot snap out of depression, but you can get help.  Life can get better.  Our counselors can help.  Give us a call.

Bi-Polar disorder

Extreme highs and extreme lows in mood.  Moods can cycle from euphoric, invincible, sometimes ragefully intense to suicidal ideation.  Manic depression can be treated.  Medical intervention plus psychotherapy shows better results than either modality alone. Left untreated, this disorder often destroys relationships, jobs and lives.  We will work with your physician or provide a referral for medication while assisting you with the personal counseling needed to live a productive and meaningful life.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post traumatic stress disorder is the result of experiencing things most of us never see (i.e. war, robbery rape, extreme abuse).  After the event(s), sometimes months or years later, you my begin reliving the experience in your dreams, suffer from anxiety and panic attacks or struggle with depression.  Our counselors can help you understand your actions and what you are experiencing.  In addition, we can provide you with the mental and emotional support and adjustment techniques to lessen the hold the trauma has had on you.

Self-destructive patterns

These are often sub-conscious choices that you may make that sabotage your job, relationships and health.  Identifying and correcting these patterns can put you back on the road to success in your life.

Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D)

Dissociative Identity Disorder, sometimes referred to as multiple personality disorder, usually arises out of sustained and severe child abuse.  An individual “splits” and creates separate personalities just to cope and survive the abuse.  Psychotherapy can address the abuse and help you understand your reactions.  Validation and respect for individual “alters” and their unique contributions to the system can provide peace and hope.

Anger issues

Anger is a powerful energy force within all of us.  Anger in itself is not bad.  What you do with your anger can be harmful and destructive.  Effectively dealing with anger and the underlying triggers is valuable.  Make your anger a healthy ally, not a hindrance to your happiness.

Grief and loss

If you have gone through the death of a loved one, divorce, job loss, relocation and/or children leaving for college or the military, you may experience the sadness and pain of grief and loss.   Talking through your loss and feelings with a trained professional can speed your recovery and help you return to a healthier and happier life.

Divorce recovery

Statistics report that about 50% of marriages will end up in divorce.  Both husband and wife play a role in its demise.  Identifying your part, grieving your loss and understanding how you can avoid repeating the same mistakes will help you move on with your life in a healthier way.  Love truly can be sweeter the second time around.

Stress management

Stress is a part of our everyday life.  The stress you experience may be more frequent and more intense than others.  There are proven cognitive and behavioral techniques you can use to reduce and/or manage your stress and minimize its negative effect on you.

Anxiety and panic

Worry to the max!  Sometimes you are aware of the worry, sometimes not.  Symptoms can be compromising at best, paralyzing at worst.  Counseling can help you recognize your triggers, develop effective coping skills and find the internal drive and confidence to enjoy life.
