Bi-polar depression (also known as manic-depression) is a challenging mental disorder that can destroy lives and relationships.  It is estimated that 1 – 3% of the population has this problem.  The average age of first diagnosis is between 15 and 30 years of age.  Left untreated, consequences are like living on a rollercoaster to the max.  It if very treatable!  Medication and psychotherapy in combination help the patient get their life back.  Listed below are some symptoms common to this condition.

 

·        Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity, feeling invincible or having supernatural powers.

 

·        Decreased need for sleep, sometimes going days with little or no sleep.

 

·        Pressured speech, cannot get the words out fast enough.

 

·        Racing thoughts, often grandiose.

 

·        Episodes of self-destructive or risk taking behaviors (i.e. excessive gambling, spending or affairs).

 

·        Quick and explosive outbursts of rage.

 

·        Persistent sadness or anxious moods.

 

·        Loss of interest in what use to bring pleasure.

 

·        Difficulty concentrating or making decisions.

 

·        Thoughts of suicide.

 

Moods swing (“cycle”) from mania to depression and back with some intervals of neither at varied levels from days, weeks, even months.   Having these symptoms does not mean you have bi-polar depression, but if life is not working for you, see a mental health professional.  Get your life back and live passionately ever after.
